Theft Information

Scrap metal theft is increasingly becoming a problem in communities across the nation. Brenner Recycling is proud to join forces with government and local authorities and our scrap recycling trade association to combat metal theft.

In 2008, the Legislature of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania passed and enacted Act 113 / HB 1742. This Act requires scrap recyclers to collect the following information from all customer:

• Copy of the seller’s current driver’s license or government-issued photo identification
• License plate number of the seller’s vehicle
• Date and time of the transaction
• Description of the materials purchased (to include weight and amount paid to seller)
• Seller’s and Buyer’s signature for each transaction

If you suspect your property has been stolen and potentially scrapped, Brenner Recycling will gladly assist law enforcement authorities in their investigation.

Additionally, our trade association – the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI) – has developed an online theft reporting system available to law enforcement and recyclers (www.ScrapTheftAlert.com). It allows law enforcement to send out prompt alerts to recyclers in a 100-mile radius from where the theft occurred. The alerts contain vital information such as the location, descriptions of the material stolen, and information on the individuals and/or vehicles that may have been involved in the theft.
